Field Note : Clear skies are often not what the landscape photographer hopes for and, generally I agree, but in Kent I find them less of a creative problem for my landscape photography. I find the County lends itself to big, expansive skies as the landscape is often more open and uncomplicated and the two go well together. Here, in Margate, the evening light has turned that lovely, deep blue colour and the array of lights have cast pleasing reflections on the water. This ultra simple, almost minimalist composition with so much sky and water in it defies the normal rules of composition but I like it, I think it mirrors the scale and character of the landscape and avoids any contrived attempt to force it into a more conventional composition.
