Field Notes

After a busy day location searching and shooting the ever changing light and scenery on this far outpost of the British Isles the light was fading and I was ready for a pint. But something persuaded me to remain; what caught my eye was the difference in the tones in the sea and sky. Had it been ‘flat’ I’d have been happily settled in the pub but instead I couldn’t resist finding a way to capture the deep, dark mood of the view. I opted for a telephoto lens and, in the low light, a long-ish exposure creating a smoothing effect on the water which I like. I also felt a tight crop to emphasise the relationship between the land, piercing into the space occupied by the sea and water made for a pleasing intersection of the shapes together with the delightful colour palette.
