Made famous, I think, by the exceptional photographer Joe Cornish whose view of Elgol graced the cover of his book, ‘First Light’ and inspired a generation of photographers to quite simply do better. This is the quintessential JCB (Joe Cornish Boulder). However, I feel this is very unfair on Joe; his work is on another level and to conclude that it’s a case of using a big boulder in the foreground is missing 99% of what can be learnt from studying his photography. Here, I’ve used the same viewpoint but tried to achieve a very different composition, look and feel in an effort to take inspiration from Joe but avoid merely emulating him.
