Field Notes

The art critic Adrian Hamilton, in his review of Turners later, impressionistic works observed that ‘there is no point in saying what they are about. They just are – without rules, without objects, without composition – pure paint and pure sensation[SH1] .’  Creating this more immersive experience was the idea behind this photo, freeing myself from the shackles of the “rules” of photography. The light on this sunrise overlooking the English Channel seemed to lend itself well to this approach and indeed I felt a sensation of witnessing pure, raw light which begged to be interpreted without rules or composition.

[SH1]Likewise does this need a reference?
